Job summary

Wichita State University is seeking a part-time Health Professions Tutor to support undergraduate students in the TRIO STEM Student Support Services program at the Wichita Main Campus.

The role involves tutoring students in health-science courses, helping them master complex material, and developing effective study strategies while working a campus-based schedule aligned with class timetables.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.
• Sophomore standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a grade of B or better in tutored courses.
• Major in a health professions field (Nursing, Dental Hygiene Health Sciences, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a pre-health track).
• Prior tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or peer-education experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide tutoring in pre-health courses such as Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, General Biology, General and Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medical Terminology, and other course needs.
• Help students understand concepts, work through problems, and apply course content to clinical health scenarios.
• Teach study strategies for health sciences coursework, including memorization techniques, concept mapping, lab practical preparation, and approaches to high stakes exams.
• Maintain tutoring session records and communicate student progress or concerns to the Tutor Coordinator.
• Participate in tutor training and program events as scheduled.

Job Story

The Health Professions Tutor provides high quality academic supportto undergraduate participants in the federally funded TRIO STEMStudent Support Services Program who are pursuing pre health andhealth professions pathways, including nursing, pre medicine, predental, pre pharmacy, dental hygiene, and other allied healthprograms. The tutor helps students master demanding science andhealth coursework, build study habits that hold up in rigorousprograms, and grow the confidence they need to stay on track towardprofessional school and licensure.

Job Summary

A student assistant will carry out administrative and technicaltasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the studentassistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other studentsor provide support throughout the campus in various forms.

Job Duties

Required Education

Additional Requirements

• Minimum Sophomore standing; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; hasachieved a grade of “B” or better in tutored courses.
• Major in a health professions field (such as Nursing, DentalHygiene Health Sciences, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a prehealth track).
• Prior tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or peer‑educationexperience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to remain in a stationary position.
