Job summary

Universal Health Services in the United States seeks a Certified Peer Support Specialist for an OTP clinic grant-funded position. You will provide one-on-one peer support, share recovery experiences, and help clients navigate health, housing, employment, and social services within MAT programs.

Hours are 8am to 5pm; the role requires lived experience, peer counseling training, and the ability to coordinate with case managers and reentry staff.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certified as a Peer Support Specialist.
  • Lived experience with recovery or reentry required.
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Experience with substance use and mental health.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients in navigating healthcare, mental health, substance use treatment, housing, employment, education, and social services.

  • Advocate for clients’ needs and rights within healthcare, social service, and justice systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of support activities and client progress.

Job description

Certified Peer Support Specialist- OTP Clinic- Grant Funded Position

The Peer Support Specialist provides vital support and advocacy for individuals involved in the criminal justice system, assisting with their transition from incarceration to community living. Utilizing lived experience with recovery and/or reentry, the Specialist offers emotional support, guidance, and resource connection to promote successful reintegration, reduce recidivism, and improve overall well-being. The Peer Support Specialist will coordinate with health service providers, the Clinical Case Manager, the discharge planner, and reentry staff to provide outreach, intake, and wrap-around services for individuals participating in the MAT program. The Peer Support Specialists should have experience with substance use and mental health. They must be trained in peer counseling, life skills, and the impact of reentry on individuals. The PSS must be qualified and trained to provide effective diversion and/or reentry services and maintain the confidentiality of program participants’ medical and justice involvement history.

Hours are from 8am-5pm

  • Assist clients in navigating healthcare, mental health, substance use treatment, housing, employment, education, and social services.
  • Facilitate peer support groups and educational workshops focused on recovery, coping skills, and community resources.
  • Advocate for clients’ needs and rights within healthcare, social service, and justice systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including case managers, social workers, probation/parole officers, and healthcare providers to coordinate care.
  • Help develop individualized reentry plans supporting clients’ goals and recovery journeys.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of support activities and client progress according to program requirements. Complete intakes and report compliance.

This position is supported by grant funding for an initial 18 month period, with the opportunity to extend for another 12 months. Following the grant period, there may be opportunities for the role to continue as part of ongoing operations, contingent on program sustainability and organizational needs.
