Job summary

Key People in Austin is seeking a Phlebotomist for a 3-month contract with potential to become permanent. Schedule is Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, in a pediatric-focused setting. The role requires 3 to 4 years of pediatric experience and skill with hard sticks.

Responsibilities include blood draws, labeling and processing specimens, maintaining data, and ensuring specimen integrity per protocol. OSHA compliance and training attendance are required.

Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed.
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 2 years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Explains venipuncture process clearly and courteously; demonstrates technique with needles.
• Fully understands physicians' orders and matches requisition forms to specimens.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Check test requisitions against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy; package specimens for transport.
• Store specimen samples per required temperature; follow OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
