Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Cert Surgical Technologist upon hire required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire.
• Completion of Nationally Accredited Surgical Technology Program or Military Surgical Tech Program required; new grads have 1 year to obtain certification.
• Maintain NBSTSA CST certification; 60 hours CE every four years.
• Complete 15 hours of CE each year.
• To be grandfathered as a surgical technologist in NY, provide prior employment evidence in a surgical facility in the four years before 2015.
• Existing Surgical Technologists as of 10/27/2020 have until 6/21/2021 to obtain BLS.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and maintains sterile field and instruments for surgical and procedural cases under the supervision of the circulating RN.
• Counts according to policy with RN.
• Demonstrates professionalism, ongoing education, and adherence to health system policies.
