Qualifications

• Must be a graduate of a School of Nursing and hold a current license by the State of Indiana in good standing.
• Must be knowledgeable of nursing skills and practices.
• Must possess health certificate/examination as required by State agencies.

Responsibilities

• Care for all residents on the unit with supervision of direct care staff.
• Perform restorative nursing care as indicated and ordered.
• Maintain residents' dignity, safety and open communication with management.
• Explain treatment goals to resident and family and obtain cooperation.
• Supervise and manage personnel on assigned hall/unit.
• Ensure medical records are maintained and updated.
• Review daily nursing assignments for duty alignment with abilities and training.
• Instruct staff on special treatments and care.
• Ensure all ordered treatments are carried out.
• Ensure lab work/x-rays are per physician order and reported promptly.
• Make rounds with physicians and assist examinations as indicated.
• Assess residents on admission and with changes; take necessary action.
• Update nursing care plan and participate in interdisciplinary conferences.
• Security of narcotics and controlled substances.
• Ensure supplies are stocked on the unit.
• Assist staff in delivering direct resident care.
• Assist with discharge planning and educate resident/family.
• Handover reports at shift change and thorough narcotics counts.
• Common rounds to monitor residents and intervene as needed.
• Administer and document medications on time.
• Notify medical providers regarding orders and visits.
• Collect data from staff and report care problems.
• Charting per schedule; document changes or unusual events.
• Maintain hygiene, hydration, elimination, ROM, sleep, safety, infection control, socialization, and dignity.
• Assist with psychosocial acceptance and staff performance evaluation.
• Coordinate nursing with Dietary, Social Services, Activities, PT, etc.
• Participate in mandatory in-service training and policy updates.
• Observe orders and incident reports; ensure timely interventions.
• Observe rounds to supervise meals and offer substitutes when needed.
• Monitor diet as ordered and maintain facility cleanliness.
• Other duties as assigned.
