Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and current basic life support certification.
• Surgical technologist certification and 1–2 years of experience OR 3–4 years in a surgical technologist role.
• Where applicable must be registered with State Regulatory Agency.
• Must scrub proficiently on at least two surgical specialties.
• Manual dexterity and ability to work under highly stressful emergent situations.
• Be conscientious, organized and able to respond quickly to the needs of the surgeon and patient.

Responsibilities

• Prepares for surgical procedures. Pulls instruments and supplies and ensures working order of instruments.
• Anticipates the surgeon's needs and passes instruments; maintains competency in two specialties.
• Maintains aseptic technique and universal precautions; counts sharps, instruments and sponges.
• Prepares instruments for cleaning after each case.
• Assists with OR turnover between cases; restocks, replenishes supplies and cleans operating rooms.
• Participates in or leads training and orientation of staff and students as assigned.
