Job summary

UAB Medicine's CVICU Stepdown unit in Birmingham is seeking a Patient Care Technician for 3 x 12-hour night shifts (7:00 pm–7:00 am) at UAB St. Vincent's East.

Provide basic clinical and non-clinical patient care under supervision, assist with ambulation, activities of daily living, vitals, and routine documentation.

Requires BLS eligibility within 30 days, high school diploma or equivalent (or equivalent experience); generous benefits and tuition reimbursement.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider required within 30 days of hire or transfer.
• High school diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ambulation and activities of daily living.
• Report changes in patient condition to nursing staff and document records.
• Maintain patient rooms and medical equipment; assist with basic clinical duties as directed.
• Perform designated clinical tasks such as oxygen setup, catheter care, pulse oximetry, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Record vitals, weight, and input/output; perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their
  room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their
  vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as
  oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency OR1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
