Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician (Telemetry Unit) for day shifts at UAB St. Vincent's East. Perform basic patient care under supervision, assist with ambulation and activities of daily living.

You will report observations to nursing staff, keep rooms clean, operate routine equipment, and perform EKGs and vitals collection as directed. Qualifications include a High School diploma or GED (or 1 year of experience) and BLS certification within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• BLS certification within 30 days of hire date (American Heart Association or Red Cross accepted).
• High School diploma or GED or 1 year of related experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ambulation and daily activities.
• Tend to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Report changes in condition to nursing staff and document records.
• Maintain patient rooms and equipment.
• Perform technical duties such as oxygen setup, catheter care, pulse oximetry, specimen collection and EKGs as directed.
• Record vitals, weight, and inputs/outputs.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Description

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency OR1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
