Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a patient care support role at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham. You will perform basic patient care under supervision, assist with ambulation and activities of daily living, and support nursing staff in monitoring patient conditions and maintaining clean, orderly rooms.

This role requires a High School diploma or equivalent and BLS within 30 days of hire. Opportunities include full-time day, night shifts, and some weekend rotation at the 5 South Tower Ortho location.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider certification required within 30 days of hire.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• One year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
• Assist patients with ambulation and moving to rooms or chairs.
• Help patients with daily living activities and personal care.
• Report changes in patient condition to nursing staff and document records.
• Keep patient rooms clean and maintain medical equipment.
• Perform duties such as oxygen setup, catheter care, pulse oximetry, specimen collection and EKGs as directed.

Job Description

• Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency OR1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
