Job summary

UAB Medicine in Alabama is seeking a Surgical Technologist to facilitate safe surgical procedures in the 119 Surgery Center. You will prepare the operating room, hand instruments to the surgeon, and assist with patient positioning and draping.

Required certification includes BLS and NBSTSA/NCCT eligibility within 30 days of hire; a high school diploma with a surgical technologist program or 4 years of relevant experience is required, with an associate degree preferred.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
• NBSTSA or NCCT Surgical Tech credentialing must be achieved within 30 days of hire.

Job Description

Facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.

• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile drapes and sterile solutions as well as appropriate sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
• Hand required/requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor/track instruments counts throughout procedures.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• One or more of the following required:
  • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

• High school diploma equivalency AND completion of a surgical technologist program with a clinical component OR a minimum of 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience required.
• Associate's degree or technical degree preferred.
