Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a PRN patient care technician to perform basic clinical and non-clinical duties under supervision within MedSurg, 3 South Medical. Schedule includes one weekend shift per month.

Responsibilities include assisting patients with ambulation and daily living activities, obtaining vitals, documenting changes, and keeping rooms clean and stocked. Qualifying candidates must have a High School diploma or equivalent (or 1 year related experience) and a BLS

Qualifications

• BLS Provider certification within 1 month (30 days) of hire date.
• High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ambulation to recliners, hallways, or vehicles as needed.
• Assist with personal care and activities of daily living.
• Report changes in physical, mental, or emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Keep patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintain medical equipment.
• Perform duties such as oxygen setup, Foley care, pulse oximetry, and EKGs as directed.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency OR1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
