Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL seeks a Surgical Technologist to facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures. You will prepare the operating suite, hand instruments to the surgeon, assist with patient positioning, and maintain instrument counts throughout procedures.

This PRN/0600-1500 shift operates in the Main OR with comprehensive benefits. Requirements include completion of a surgical technologist program or 4+ years of experience, BLS, and NBSTSA or NCCT

Qualifications

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Surgical Tech credentialed from NBSTSA or NCCT obtained within 1 month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
• High school diploma equivalency plus completion of a surgical technologist program with a clinical component OR a minimum of 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
• Associate's degree or technical degree preferred.

• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile drapes and sterile solutions as well as appropriate sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
• Hand required/requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor/track instruments counts throughout procedures.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• One or more of the following required:
  • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

• High school diploma equivalency AND completion of a surgical technologist program with a clinical component OR a minimum of 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience required.
• Associate's degree or technical degree preferred.
