Job summary

The State of Georgia is seeking a Payroll Tech 1 to join the State Accounting Office's payroll shared services. This role processes payroll data, handles garnishments, and supports payroll operations to ensure timely, accurate pay for state employees.

Under direct supervision, you will enter and verify payroll information, answer inquiries from agencies, and maintain records with strict confidentiality. A background check and eligibility to work in the United States are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED and one year of job-related experience.
• Experience with payroll processing and customer inquiries.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive data.
• Familiarity with payroll systems and data accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Enters, processes/records/transmits, and proofs payroll data submitted by various agencies accurately and against firm deadlines.
• Processes and enters garnishments, levies, and other court ordered payments into payroll panels.
• Audits job data transactions for accuracy and applies corrective action with supervision.
• Calculates, verifies, and processes deductions and disburses payments on time.
• Reviews and verifies paychecks for new hires and terminated employees; maintains exception reports.
• Maintains discretion and confidentiality related to payroll data.
