Job summary

McLane Company, Inc. is seeking a Payroll Supervisor in Temple, TX to lead payroll staff, ensure accurate processing, and drive process improvements using Workday. You will partner with HR and other units to manage complex transactions and employee benefit distributions.

The role requires 5+ years in payroll and accounting, 2+ years supervisory experience, and strong knowledge of wage-and-hour regulations, with excellent communication and coaching abilities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years payroll and accounting experience including 2+ years supervisory experience.
  • Strong customer service orientation and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of federal and state wage-and-hour regulations.
  • Ability to motivate, train, and coach team.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English for job tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Direct payroll staff to provide accurate and timely payroll processing and resolve payroll issues.
  • Maintain procedures and monitor performance standards for each activity.
  • Design and direct implementation of system and process improvements to promote efficiencies.
  • Perform all system processes with Workday to control processing, reporting, and scheduling.
  • Enforce payroll-related policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources and other units on special transactions.
  • Research questions related to payroll from planning, operations, accounting, and field.
  • Evaluate coordinators and aid them in maximizing potential.
  • Manage short-term disability payments to teammates.
  • Establish and monitor executive compensation including deferred compensation and car allowance.
  • Perform other tasks or special projects as necessary.

What You’ll Do As a Payroll Supervisor
  • Direct payroll staff to provide accurate and timely payroll processing and resolution of payroll issues.
  • Maintain functional procedures and establish/monitor high standards of performance for each activity.
  • Design and direct implementation of system, and process improvements to promote efficiencies in department and field locations.
  • Perform all system processes with Workday to control processing, reporting and scheduling within the systems while utilizing the system effectively.
  • Make decisions regarding enforcement and interpretation of policies and procedures as they relate to payroll.
  • Act as a liaison or point person with the Human Resources and other Business Units, in handling special transactions.
  • Research questions from planning, operations, accounting, and the field related to payroll expense in the general ledger.
  • Evaluate the payroll department coordinators individual performance and aid them in maximizing their full potential while maintaining high standards.
  • Manage the short-term disability payments to all Teammates.
  • Establish and monitor executive compensation including but not limited to, deferred compensation and car allowance.
  • Perform other tasks or special projects as necessary.
Qualifications You’ll Bring As a Payroll Supervisor
  • Have a 18 months Workday experience with release 8.9 or newer.
  • Have Five or more years of payroll and accounting experience including Two or more years supervisory experience.
  • High level of customer service orientation, excellent planning, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Be able to project self-confidence in dealing with others.
  • Be an adaptable individual who can implement change effectively.
  • Have working knowledge of federal and state wage and hour regulations.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be able to motivate, trains, and provides ongoing coaching for the team.
  • This position requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role. The requirement is directly related to the nature of the job and ensures compliance with workplace safety and operational standards.
