We are seeking a Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations in a dynamic, multi-state environment. This individual will ensure seamless and compliant payroll processing, provide exceptional internal customer support, and oversee system enhancements and audit readiness. This is open to remote and is ideal for someone with hands-on UKG experience, strong leadership capabilities, and a passion for operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end payroll operations including processing payroll cycles, audits, and reporting functions.
- Oversee timely entry and verification of employment data, including new hires, job status changes, tax updates, direct deposits, and employee deductions.
- Serve as the escalation point for complex payroll issues, providing timely resolution and high-quality support to internal stakeholders.
- Partner with cross-functional departments to ensure timely and accurate data flow between payroll, timekeeping, benefits, and finance systems.
- Analyze and reconcile time and attendance submissions; work with team members to validate timecard data each cycle.
- Maintain and process updates for wage garnishments, tax withholdings, deferral changes, and other involuntary deductions.
- Ensure payroll operations adhere to federal, state, and local regulations, including wage and hour laws across multiple jurisdictions.
- Participate in or lead payroll system updates, testing, and upgrades—particularly within UKG/UltiPro environments.
- Prepare month-end close reports, compliance filings, and responses to government or audit inquiries.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to payroll support team members.
- Collaborate with internal customers to foster a culture of trust, support, and process transparency.
- Participate in special projects and assist with continuous process improvement efforts.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of broader HR or Finance objectives.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5 years of payroll experience in a multi-state setting; experience in manufacturing or similarly structured environments is a plus.
- 2 years of experience supporting organizations of 2,000 or more employees.
- 2+ years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience using UKG (UltiPro) payroll systems is required.
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll laws and compliance standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); comfortable working with large data sets.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a customer service-oriented approach.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail.
- Proven ability to manage confidential data with integrity and professionalism.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Pay Transparency
The expected salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the role may include a performance-based bonus and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, and additional employee perks. Final compensation decisions will consider the candidate's experience, skills, and internal equity.
