Job summary

Check is rebuilding payroll infrastructure and powering the businesses that do payroll. As a Payroll Specialist on the Support team, you will own cases end to end: investigate the underlying issues, correct historical payroll records, determine downstream filing impact, and communicate outcomes to our partners.

The role carries responsibility for accuracy in multi-jurisdiction payroll tax and related filings.

Qualifications

• 3–4 years in payroll operations, payroll tax, or fintech support.
• Experience correcting payroll and tax filings with attention to detail.
• Strong numerical and data analysis skills; able to interpret tax forms.

Responsibilities

• Investigate payroll and payroll tax discrepancies to identify root cause and scope.
• Correct historical payroll records and verify corrected results.
• Determine affected filings and document required amendments by period/jurisdiction.
• Identify when corrected tax forms (W-2C, 1099) are needed and verify accuracy.
• Reconcile tax accounts and determine taxes due, refunds, or credits.
• Communicate outcomes and timelines clearly to partners; support cross-functional teams.
