Job summary

Thisiscny is seeking a Payroll Generalist II in Syracuse to provide payroll support for New York State and Research Foundation systems. You will prepare and process payroll transactions and respond to payroll inquiries from agency employees.

The role requires an Associate's degree with two years of relevant experience, strong data entry, attention to detail, and solid MS Office skills. You will maintain confidentiality and contribute to payroll reporting and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree and two years of relevant payroll experience.

• Proficiency with MS Office and payroll systems.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process complex payroll transactions and related documents.
• Answer standard payroll questions, and provide payroll customer service to agency employees by applying policies, rules and regulations issued by the Office of the State Comptroller, the Department of Civil Service and the Division of the Budget.
• Will process payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, job title and department/division transfers, or other information as needed.
• Determine payroll liabilities by calculating employee federal and state income and social security taxes and employer's social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments and other such liabilities as necessary.
• Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
• Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information and implementing changes.
• Participate in continuous process improvement efforts to support current and future systems enhancements.
• Prepare payroll reports by compiling summaries of information such as earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability and nontaxable wages.
• Provide payroll information to supervisors, customers and other approved persons.
• Provide internal and external customer service to agency employee.
• Maintain the confidentiality of payroll records, Adhere to all New York State regulatory requirements and SUNY policies and procedures.
