Additionally, we provide Functional Service Provider (FSP) Solutions, supporting our clients with scientific and technical expertise, acting as an extension of their team, coordinating all laboratory related needs, advising on strategies for lab data collection and providing end-to-end analytical and logistical solutions.

Job Summary


The Payroll and Accounts Payable Accountant is responsible for posting company payroll, and related accruals, maintaining accurate financial records, maintaining confidentiality, posting accounts payable invoices, and managing timely disbursement of payments to vendors. This role ensures compliance with all applicable laws and internal policies while supporting the finance department in reporting and audits.

Essential Duties and Other Responsibilities

  • Post bi-weekly/bonus and ad hoc payroll to the general ledger using the ERP system. (Currently Microsoft Dynamics NAV)
  • Ensure accurate calculation of payroll, bonuses, commissions, and PTO accruals.
  • Reconcile payroll-related accounts and prepare journal entries.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
  • Prepare year end reporting of 1099’s.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare payroll budgeted costs to actual costs.
  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural requirements.
  • Ensures invoices are posted to allow for payments in accordance with company goals for DPO and discounts available.
  • Thorough understanding of accruals.
  • Reconciles accounts payable subledger with the general ledger.
  • Prepare purchase orders and enter vendor invoices for payment.
  • Perform overall month end review of expenses, accruals and payables.
  • Thorough understanding of CapEx versus expense.
  • Recommend, develop, and maintain solutions to business and financial problems.
  • Ability to interpret and apply the Delegation of Authority Matrix to purchase orders and invoices.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare vendor budgeted costs to actual costs.
  • Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology.
  • Coordinate with the external auditors, when needed.

Requirements:

  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software packages, (Microsoft Dynamics NAV or other ERP system).
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • 3 years of payroll and accounts payable experience.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with accounts payable related transactions and best practices.

Education/Experience

BS in Accounting or Finance highly desirable as well as related clinical trial industry experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. The candidate must possess excellence in organization, analytical, and interpersonal skills.The position requires demonstrated experience in integrating and coordinating diverse areas of management.Significant experience working with external auditors, internal controls and compliance related issues.

Language Ability

Must possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. The ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals is needed. The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public is also necessary.

Math Ability

The ability to apply advanced concepts of accounting is required.

Reasoning Ability

Handles detailed, complex concepts and problems, balances multiple tasks simultaneously, and makes rapid decisions regarding administrative and executive issues. Must display excellent analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications,word processing software, spreadsheet software, accounting software and database software.

Certificates and Licenses

CPA is highly preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position holds some departmental supervisory responsibilities.
