Position Summary

The Loan Accountant handles duties related to loan activity, investor transactions, accounting entries, reconciliations, and related tasks. The role primarily focuses on reconciling general ledger accounts used by the accounting and lending departments, managing investor relationships, and analyzing loan financial activity across departments to ensure accuracy and proper communication.

Responsibilities

• Prepares daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations of loan-related general ledger accounts.
• Performs monthly bank reconciliations for various accounts.
• Collaborates with lending teams to resolve reconciliation issues.
• Reconciles and posts journal entries for investor loan sales and purchases.
• Prepares and posts month-end journal entries and reports within scheduled timelines.
• Investigates loan balance discrepancies between core system (Fiserv DNA) and the General Ledger.
• Assists with documentation for audits.
• Cross-trains in other accounting areas to support daily tasks.
• Updates SOP documentation and participates in projects.
• Upholds credit union policies and promotes organizational culture.

Qualifications

Requires an associate’s degree in a business-related field or at least 2 years of relevant experience. Knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), financial statements, and Fiserv DNA or similar software is essential. Must be bondable, have reliable internet, and possess strong communication skills. Knowledge of FASB, OFAC, BSA, and NCUA procedures is preferred.
