The role focuses on construction payroll, certified payroll, union reporting, and project accounting, supporting a busy accounting team with accurate payroll processing and compliance.

The ideal candidate will have 4+ years in payroll or construction payroll, strong knowledge of prevailing wage rules, and experience with multiple payroll platforms.

We are seeking an experienced Payroll and Accounting Specialist for a direct hire opportunity with a growing construction organization in north San Diego. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented payroll professional with strong construction payroll, certified payroll, union reporting, prevailing wage, and project accounting experience.

The Payroll and Accounting Specialist will support a busy construction accounting team by processing complex payroll, maintaining compliance with federal, state, local, and union requirements, and assisting with job cost and project accounting functions. Key Responsibilities

• Process accurate and timely multi-state payroll, including employee time entry, payroll verification, tax calculations, and payroll-related journal entries.
• Prepare certified payroll reports for prevailing wage projects using platforms such as LCPtracker, eMars, Elations, and related reporting systems.
• Manage union payroll reporting and ensure compliance with union agreements, master labor agreements, prevailing wage rules, and reporting deadlines.
• Maintain employee payroll records, including new hires, status changes, direct deposit updates, transfers, and terminations.
• Support project accounting and job cost administration, including project setup, job setup, labor reporting, cost reporting, and project documentation.
• Assist with payroll compliance, workers' compensation classification reporting, payroll tax table updates, and general accounting support.

• Pay range: $25.00 to $43.00 per hour. DOE

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Process complex construction payroll, including multi-state payroll, certified payroll, union payroll, and prevailing wage reporting.
• Support project accounting, job cost administration, payroll journal entries, and construction labor cost reporting.
• Ensure payroll compliance with federal, state, local, union, and prevailing wage regulations.
• Maintain accurate payroll records, reporting documentation, employee updates, and project-specific payroll information.
• 4+ years of relevant payroll, accounting, or construction payroll experience required, with 4 to 6 years of construction payroll and project accounting experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of construction payroll, certified payroll, prevailing wage requirements, and union payroll compliance.
• Experience processing payroll for multiple construction trades, including Carpenters, Ironworkers, Laborers, and Operating Engineers.
• Working knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax laws, tax calculations, and payroll reporting requirements.
• Experience with multiple workers' compensation classifications and payroll-related reporting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Journal entry and general accounting experience.
• Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to interpret union agreements, master labor agreements, and payroll compliance requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Sage 100 Contractor is highly preferred.
• Experience with QuickBooks is a plus.
• Experience with LCPtracker, eMars, Elations, or similar certified payroll reporting platforms.
• Knowledge of CCIP, OCIP, and UCIP enrollment processes.
• Bilingual English and Spanish skills are a plus.
