About the Role

Our client is a global technology and industrial solutions organization that serves customers across construction, transportation, geospatial, and advanced manufacturing. They are seeking an experienced Payroll Tax Specialist to support their multistate and international payroll operations. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast paced environment, enjoys solving complex tax challenges, and is committed to accuracy and compliance. You will support payroll tax integrity, improve processes, and assist a large distributed workforce.

Job Description

As a Payroll Tax Specialist, you will manage end to end payroll tax compliance across federal, state, local, and international jurisdictions. This includes processing payroll tax activities, reconciling tax accounts, resolving agency notices, and ensuring the accuracy of filings and year end forms. You will monitor regulatory changes, conduct research, recommend improvements, and partner with cross functional teams to maintain compliance and enhance payroll operations. This role also includes calculating and processing retroactive tax adjustments, preparing audit documentation, and updating payroll systems and procedures as requirements evolve.

  • Accurate and timely submission of all required federal, state, and local tax filings
  • Monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliation of payroll general ledger and tax liability accounts
  • Organized and complete audit documentation for internal, external, and government reviews
  • Timely resolution of all tax agency notices and penalties
  • Updated payroll systems, workflows, and standard operating procedures aligned with current legislation
  • Accurate preparation and distribution of year end forms including W2s
Qualifications
Required
  • Experience with payroll processing using ADP SmartCompliance, ADP Workforce Now, or similar systems
  • Strong background in multistate and international payroll tax compliance, reporting, and reconciliation
  • Experience resolving tax related issues, conducting tax audits, and managing W2 accuracy
  • Ability to research, interpret, and apply new and changing tax legislation
  • Experience preparing and filing tax amendments including W2c forms
  • Skill in identifying process improvements and using technology to increase efficiency and data accuracy
  • Experience collaborating with cross functional teams within payroll, human resources, accounting, or finance
  • Bachelor degree in Finance or Accounting, or an associate degree with five or more years of payroll tax experience, or CPP or FPC certification
Preferred
  • Experience working with large global organizations or technology focused companies
  • Demonstrated success improving payroll tax processes and systems
  • Advanced reconciliation skills and familiarity with complex payroll tax environments
