Job summary

PACE Southeast Michigan is seeking a Payroll Accountant to oversee bi-weekly payroll processing for salaried, hourly, and part-time staff. You will manage garnishments, 401k processing, payroll taxes, and benefit vendor interactions.

You will maintain payroll records, prepare journal entries, and support month-end/year-end close while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Collaboration with HR on hires, terminations, and deductions is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an Accounting or Finance major required.
  • Knowledge of computer programming to learn PACE SEMI’s financial system and voluminous governmental regulations.
  • Visual ability required in the analysis of reports, contracts, and other documents.
  • Manual dexterity required to prepare and tabulate data and write reports.

Responsibilities

  • Process Bi-Weekly company payroll, including salaried, hourly and part-time employees.
  • Process employee Garnishments, 401K Process payroll taxes (5500 Reporting) Process 1095C Reporting Employee Benefit vendor management
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies
  • Prepare payroll journal entries and assist with month-end and year end close.
  • Assist in calculating retroactive payments, bonuses, and commissions.
  • Generate required payroll reports such as W2s, 1099s and quarterly filings.
  • Collaborate with Human Resource department on employee compensation, new hires, terminations and benefit deductions.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll.
  • Stay current on changes in payroll laws and regulations.
  • Prepare reports for the external financial and 401k audit.
  • Maintain the payroll system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Accounting Manager and in partnership with the Human Resource Department, the PACE Southeast Michigan (PACE SEMI) Payroll Accountant is responsible for the performance of a variety of functions related to processing and analyzing payroll.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
  • Process Bi-Weekly company payroll, including salaried, hourly and part-time employees.
  • Process employee Garnishments, 401K Process payroll taxes (5500 Reporting) Process 1095C Reporting Employee Benefit vendor management
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an Accounting or Finance major required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

An office setting which may require some local travel to other PACE centers.

Normal office environment with minimal exposure to noise, dust or extreme temperatures.
