Job description

A national nonprofit organization is seeking a Payroll Accountant to join its team. This is a hands‑on role supporting biweekly payroll and related accounting functions in a collaborative environment. This is a hybrid role requiring 2 days on‑site in Manhattan.

Responsibilities

• Process biweekly payroll for exempt and non‑exempt employees across multiple states
• Review and approve payroll, ensuring accuracy of wages, deductions, and taxes
• Ensure payroll tax compliance, including state registrations, withholdings, and timely remittance of payments
• Research and resolve payroll discrepancies (overpayments, underpayments, missed payments) and communicate effectively with employees
• Assist with payroll journal entries, coding, allocations, and imports into the accounting system
• Support light general accounting tasks during non‑payroll cycles, including small bank reconciliations

Requirements

• 3+ years of hands‑on payroll experience
• Experience with Paylocity strongly preferred
• Strong problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills
