Job summary

Gusto is seeking a Payment Operations Manager to lead a team responsible for ACH, wires, RTP, and international payments. You will manage partner relationships, drive compliance programs, and own day-to-day operations while advancing automation and AI-powered workflows.

The role requires deep experience in payment operations, strong leadership, and collaboration with Engineering, Product, Accounting, Risk, Legal, and CX. Hybrid work with multiple city offices is offered.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in payment/banking/treasury operations with escalations ownership
• 2+ years directly managing a team
• Experience with ACH/Nacha, wires, RTP; international movement a plus
• Experience in operating bank/payment partner relationships and escalations
• Experience with compliance programs (SOC 1, Nacha risk self-assessment, unclaimed property)
• Strong people leadership and cross-functional influence
• AI fluency and ability to drive automation across the team

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the Payment Operations team; set SLAs, coach, and manage performance
• Own day-to-day bank and payment partner operations; triage issues and conduct reviews
• Run compliance programs and audits; maintain controls and documentation
• Drive incident response for payment operations and ensure root-cause fixes
• Partner with Product and Engineering to inject operational insight
• Promote AI-enabled processes for faster investigations and better documentation
• Balance hands-on ticket work with scalable team leadership and accountability
