PayJunction is seeking a Software Architect to design and build the enterprise features and payment integrations our partners rely on to move billions of dollars a year, taking open-ended problems from a blank page to production while still writing Java yourself. Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with ownership of production systems.
• ~5+ years of Java experience, including web frameworks and JVM ecosystem, with recent production Java work.
• ~Production experience with AWS, Linux, relational databases (MySQL), CI/CD (Jenkins), IaC (Puppet), and observability tools (Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus).
• ~ Designed and operated high-availability transactional systems with meaningful financial or customer impact.
• ~ Currently uses AI coding assistants or agents in day-to-day production work.

Responsibilities

• Design and own high-risk software components end-to-end with clear requirements and failure modes.
• Write production Java code each sprint, review PRs promptly, and enforce a robust test strategy for critical paths.
• Keep core platform processor-agnostic and ensure processor integrations run optimally from mapping to settlement.
• Design for reliability and PCI compliance from the start, define SLOs and monitoring, and minimize single points of failure.
• Drive delivery velocity with AI-assisted development while maintaining security guardrails for generated code.
