Job summary

University of Louisville is seeking a Library Assistant I to help library patrons at the public service desk, assist with access to research databases, issue library cards, and guide patrons in using computers, scanners, and copiers.

The role includes interlibrary loan duties and maintaining patron records, with patron inquiries handled via email and phone, ensuring desk coverage with the Student Supervisor.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED and up to two (2) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• One year of college study in liberal arts, business, computer/information science or related field and two years of related experience.
• Experience using ILLiad or other bibliographic management or resource sharing systems, WorldShare Management System (WMS), and/or PubMed.
• Demonstrates customer focus, teamwork, coaching & mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Administer departmental services, which include but are not limited to: interpret library policies when receiving and responding to patron questions and concerns, direct patrons to appropriate information sources, and make decisions regarding borrower eligibility.
• Communicate with other libraries via phone & email regarding bibliographic, shipping, and other problems with lending requests and materials.
• Process interlibrary lending requests received from other university and hospital libraries via OCLC, ILLiad, and other resource sharing systems.
• Assist in maintaining library patron address records.
• Collaborate with the Student Supervisor to provide guidance and direction to student personnel in the absence of the supervisor to ensure proper desk coverage
