Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Patient Visual Monitor Technician for the Central Monitoring Unit on day shifts. This role provides continuous observation to support patient safety under RN supervision, using virtual monitoring and push-to-call devices.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, within 90 days behavioral health training, and BLS within 6 months. Prior healthcare experience is preferred, with strong communication and multitasking skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Behavioral health training within 90 days of hire.
• BLS (Healthcare Provider) within 6 months of hire.
• Healthcare experience preferred.
• Excellent dependability and self-discipline.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to operate and minorly repair equipment.
• Proficient keyboard use for essential duties.
• Clear communication with patients via push-to-call devices or headset.
• Ability to monitor up to sixteen patients continuously.

Responsibilities

• Continuously observe patients and report changes to nursing staff promptly.
• Monitor patient environment to ensure safety.
• Redirect or activate alarms for patients on fall precautions as needed.
• Intervene in at-risk fall situations.
• Demonstrate proficiency in virtual monitoring software and tools.
• Notify care team verbally when assistance is needed.
• Observe and report changes posing safety risks.
• Participate in patient handoffs with key updates.
• Assist with activities of daily living and comfort.
• Document care and behavioral changes as directed by RN.
• Communicate with RNs and interdisciplinary team via phone, Vocera, etc.
• Support department meetings, in-services, and committees.
• Complete unit-specific competencies during orientation.
• Maintain knowledge of protocols and emergency procedures.
