Job Summary

Patient Transporter

Facilitating Internal Hospital Patient Moves

Summary: Responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate transport of patients, medical equipment, and patient-related items to their destinations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Properly and safely transport patients, securing IVs, drainage tubes, etc., and securing the patient.
• Use wheelchairs and other approved rolling stock to carry out transport duties.
• Demonstrate competency in transporting patients of all age groups.
• Ensure the safe, timely, and accurate transport of patients using proper equipment.
• Communicate effectively with nursing staff, clinicians, technicians, reception, and dispatch.
• Ensure patient comfort by being attentive, offering blankets, checking modesty, and engaging in appropriate conversation. Never transport patients in severe pain.
• Alert nursing staff immediately to any signs of patient distress or equipment malfunction.
• Maintain and report on equipment needing repairs.
• Comply with regulatory standards, including federal, state, and JCAHO.
• Adhere to confidentiality and patient rights policies as outlined in HIPAA.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
