Job summary

Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital is seeking a Patient Transporter to move patients, verify identities, and operate transport equipment with emphasis on safety and infection control. The role is 36 hours per week with a mid-shift starting at 11am and requires every-other-weekend availability.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and BLS certification within 90 days. Preferred: at least 1 year of patient transport experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• BLS through American Heart Association (or within 90 days of employment)
• At least 1 year experience with patient transport handling

Responsibilities

• Transport patients as assigned.
• Verify patient identity using two patient identifiers.
• Provide and adjust transport equipment for safety and comfort of the patient.
• Disinfect/wipe down equipment between patient transports.
• Assist patients onto transport equipment and provide help as needed.
• Maintain ownership of transport equipment and report maintenance needs.
• Notify nursing or ancillary personnel upon arrival or departure of patients.
• Attend to patient-related documents (e.g., ticket to ride).
• Report any unusual symptoms during transport (fainting, shortness of breath).
• Move and care for transport equipment for patient movement.
• Use infection control precautions, PPE and hand hygiene.
• Safely transport patient oxygen after clinician setup.
• Provide feedback on equipment conditions and availability.
• Other duties as assigned.
