Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Transporter to support patient movement within the facility. You will verify patient identity, prepare transport equipment, and ensure safety and comfort during all transports.

The role requires a high school diploma and BLS certification (within 90 days). Preferred candidates have at least 1 year of transport experience and will work under supervision to maintain equipment and follow infection control protocols.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS through American Heart Association required within 90 days of employment.
• Preferred: at least 1 year of experience with patient transport handling.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients as assigned.
• Verify patient identity using two patient identifiers.
• Prepare and adjust transport equipment for patient safety and comfort.
• Disinfect and wipe down equipment between transports.
• Assist patients onto transport equipment and seek patient care assistance when needed.
• Maintain ownership of transport equipment including cleaning and reporting maintenance needs.
• Notify nursing/ancillary staff on patient arrival or departure.
• Handle patient documents (e.g., ticket to ride).
• Report any unusual patient symptoms during transport (fainting, shortness of breath).
• Move and care for transport equipment for patient movement.
• Follow infection control precautions, including hand hygiene and PPE.
