Job Description

Escorts or transports patients within the facility. Records patient movement in the transport tracking system. Picks up and delivers materials and equipment. Assists in performing duties related to specialty areas of assignment.

Job Responsibilities

1. Cleans, maintains, and operates transport equipment and elevators to move or escort patients/visitors to and from various hospital areas, following established policies and procedures.
2. Receives formal instruction/direction upon pick-up and provides formal hand-off reports at the destination, reporting any changes in patient status or condition during transport.
3. Removes and reports defective equipment to the supervisor; assists clinical staff with lifting and moving patients for transfer and transport.
4. Ensures oxygen tanks required for transport contain sufficient oxygen and are safely secured; cleans transportation equipment according to Infection Control protocols.
5. Confirms patient readiness for transport, checks for necessary equipment, and ensures availability.
6. Recognizes symptoms of cardio-pulmonary distress, calls the code team, and provides interim basic life support until the team arrives.
7. Uses the patient transport tracking system to receive, accept, track, and close assignments.
8. Picks up and delivers materials and equipment within the hospital according to policies and procedures.
9. Transfers deceased patients to the hospital morgue following operating policies and procedures.
10. Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities listed are considered essential functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
