Job summary

The Phoenix VA Health Care System is seeking a Transportation Assistant to coordinate patient transportation, including ALS/BLS ambulance, air and ground transport for the Phoenix VA Medical Center and eight outlying clinics.

You will schedule transfers, verify eligibility, advise staff, manage transportation logs, and ensure compliant records. Work hours Monday–Friday 7:30 am–4:00 pm with duty location discussed during interview; not virtual.

Qualifications

• Coordinates wheelchair, taxi and/or ambulatory transports with authorized transportation requests.
• Plans and arranges for commercial or contracted transport.
• Verifies eligibility for arranging transportation of dependents, escorts, and care givers for interfacility transfers.
• Maintains knowledge of regulations governing transportation and scheduling.
• Performs routine clerical work and responds to customer complaints.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and advises staff regarding bed confirmation, transfer of records and transportation availability.
• Authorizes expenses for interfacility transfers when care is provided in non-federal hospitals.
• Ensures transportation logs meet records management guidelines.
• Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
