Job summary

The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is seeking a Transport Services Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Transport department in a busy hospital setting. You will monitor workload, assign tasks, and support nursing and ancillary teams to ensure timely patient movements.

Under leadership, you will evaluate staff performance, provide coaching, and help with orientation and training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification required.
• 6 months of patient transport experience required.
• Associate degree preferred; leadership experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day supervision of the transport department's workflow to ensure timely transports.
• Prioritize transport requests based on patient needs and resource availability.
• Mentor and coach transport staff; assist in training and evaluating performance.
• Perform patient transport duties using wheelchair, stretcher, or bed for patients of all ages and conditions.
• Use lifts, transfer boards and other equipment to ensure safety and comfort.
• Coordinate with nursing, radiology and other departments for schedules and issue resolution.
• Maintain and sanitize transport equipment; report malfunctions.
• Keep accurate records of transport requests and completions.
• Identify and resolve operational issues and delays during shifts.
• Adhere to hospital policies, safety, and HIPAA; handle morgue transport if required.
