Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a Patient Transport Aide to move patients and specimens within the assigned area. You will transport patients by wheelchair or stretcher, ensure safety, and maintain accurate communication with units and imaging departments.

Responsibilities include handling patient equipment safely, following PPE protocols, and assisting with supplies and environmental duties as needed. A High School diploma/GED is required, with strong interpersonal skills emphasized.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED (or equivalent).
• Utilizes social skills and communicates appropriately to alleviate fears and anxiety of the patient.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients by wheelchair and stretcher/bed transport, ensuring safe handling to prevent falls.
• Transports patients to and from units or imaging modalities within expected time frames; ensure patient chart accompanies.
• Maintain communication with Dispatch/Modality/Unit to report receipt, changes or delays, and completion of tasks.
• Handle patient support equipment safely; remove unsafe/unclean equipment; exchange oxygen tanks as needed.
• Obtain supplies from central supply when requested.
• Follow isolation protocols and PPE/hand hygiene procedures during transport.
• Use two patient identifiers to correctly identify patients.
• Follow proper protocol for patient expirations.
• Transport specimens to the laboratory and deliver blood/blood products as required.
• Assist with environmental duties and adhere to cleaning procedures.
