Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a Transportation Aide to support patient flow across our New Jersey facilities. You will transport patients and specimens, ensuring safety and timely delivery while maintaining patient dignity.

This role requires a High School Diploma or GED and strong communication to calm patients. You will follow isolation protocols, use PPE, and work with Dispatch, Imaging, and units to keep care moving.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED, and/or GED equivalent programs.
• Strong communication to alleviate fears and ensure patient experience.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients by wheelchairs and stretcher; ensure safe handling to prevent falls.
• Transport patients to units or imaging within timeframes; bring along patient chart.
• Maintain open communication with Dispatch/Modality/Unit to report receipt, changes or delays.
• Handle patient support equipment safely and remove unsafe/unclean equipment; exchange oxygen tanks when needed.
• Obtain supplies from central supply as requested.
• Follow isolation protocols and use PPE; adhere to handwashing techniques.
• Use two patient identifiers to correctly identify patients.
• Follow proper protocol for patient expirations.
• Transport specimens to the laboratory when required; deliver blood and blood products timely.
• Pickup slides for physicians per request.
• Participate in automated systems for patient throughput.
• Lift minimum 10 lbs., push/pull minimum 50 lbs., stand for length of shift.
• Identify patient population needs by age/culture/language and adapt care accordingly.
• Assist with environmental duties and waste/linen disposal; follow cleaning procedures.
• Adhere to the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
