Job summary

Corewell Health - Dearborn Hospital is seeking a dedicated Patient Transport team member to move patients and equipment across examinations and treatment areas. The role includes preparing patients, identifying them, and ensuring safe, timely transport within hospital settings.

The position requires safe lifting techniques, strong communication, and adherence to HIPAA and universal precautions. Day shift, 40 hours/week, with variable days and weekends.

Qualifications

• Three months of on-the-job training completed.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• Understands and demonstrates safe lifting and transport techniques.
• Knows and practices Universal Precautions.
• Demonstrated communication skills to interact with courtesy, tact, empathy, and professionalism.
• Ability to understand and follow directions, ability to comply with HIPAA confidentiality requirements.
• Recognize if the patient is experiencing stress or other issues during transport and seek assistance.
• Preferred: experience in patient transportation in an acute hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients in and out of cars and beds using wheelchairs or gurneys.
• Identify patients before transport.
• Transport patients and equipment to testing areas including ICU.
• Communicate with medical staff to ensure supplies and medications are transported with patients.
• Support timely discharge of patients.
• Assist in toileting ambulatory patients under RN direction.
• Clean and disinfect equipment; maintain clean work areas.
• Participate in safety initiatives and complete safety competencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
