We are a growing ophthalmology practice based in Michigan, providing exceptional eye care to our community. As our team expands, we’re seeking a friendly, organized, and adaptable Front Desk Receptionist/Medical Assistant to join our practice. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys a variety of tasks and is looking to contribute to a small, close-knit team.
Position Overview:
The Front Desk Receptionist/Medical Assistant will be the first point of contact for our patients. This role involves managing phone calls, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance eligibility, checking patients in and out, assisting with testing, and supporting the clinical team as needed. You will also have the opportunity to learn new skills such as ophthalmic testing, scribing, and potentially becoming a certified ophthalmic technician.
Key Responsibilities:
- Answer phones and assist patients with scheduling, inquiries, and appointment reminders.
- Check in and check out patients, ensuring all necessary information is collected and accurate.
- Verify insurance eligibility and process patient information in advance of visits.
- Assist with office procedures, including taking patient history, performing preliminary tests, and preparing patients for exams.
- Help with ophthalmic testing as needed, and provide support to the clinical staff.
- Learn to assist with scribing during patient visits and provide support with documentation.
- Maintain a clean and organized front desk area and patient waiting area.
- Ensure that patient records are kept up to date and compliant with privacy regulations (HIPAA).
- Collaborate with the rest of the practice staff to ensure smooth daily operations and a positive patient experience.
- Perform additional administrative duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience as a medical receptionist, ophthalmic technician, or scribe is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and a patient-friendly demeanor.
- Ability to multi-task, stay organized, and manage time effectively.
- Proficiency in basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, scheduling software).
- Ability to work in a small team environment and remain flexible with job duties.
- Interest in learning and expanding skills in ophthalmology, testing, and scribing.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly with patient information and insurance verification.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
