We are seeking a Patient Service Coordinator/Medical Assistant within the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics who will have dual responsibilities as both a Patient Service Coordinator and Certified Medical Assistant to work in the Women’s Health Clinic at Green Spring Station (GSS). This position provides friendly, courteous, and confidential assistance to every patient to ensure a positive experience.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing friendly, courteous, and confidential assistance to patients.
- Maintaining accurate patient information and using automated systems for scheduling, registration, check-in, and check-out.
- Scheduling procedures, tests, examinations, and consultations, and informing patients about preparations.
- Handling cancellations and coordinating visits within and between departments.
- Interviewing patients and family members to obtain pre-registration info and confirming appointments.
- Sending directions, maps, fee schedules, and medical questionnaires to patients.
- Verifying insurance and demographic data, and preparing schedules.
- Confirming appointments and obtaining pre-certifications as needed.
- Registering patients, informing them about costs, and guiding them to resources.
- Arranging patient transportation and answering phone inquiries.
- Coordinating hospital admissions and reviewing patient charges.
- Handling payments, issuing receipts, and managing billing codes in Epic.
- Discussing charges with patients, evaluating eligibility for financial assistance, and preparing statements.
- Managing medical records, lab results, and communication with physicians.
- Participating in patient care under supervision, including vital signs collection and documentation.
- Monitoring patient status, organizing care activities, and confirming orders.
- Maintaining aseptic techniques, assisting with procedures, and managing specimens.
- Recognizing emergencies, providing first aid, and maintaining emergency supplies.
- Providing patient education and community resources, and referring patients as needed.
- Performing injections, breath tests, and routine lab result notifications.
- Ensuring smooth patient flow and assisting with onboarding new staff.
- Preparing exam rooms, assisting with transfers, and identifying patients with special needs.
- Directing patients with medical complaints to physicians or emergency services.
- Managing supplies, equipment, and clinic maintenance issues.
- Handling prescription refills, messages, patient flow, and administrative tasks.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (e.g., CMA, RMA, NAHP).
- At least one year of customer service experience.
- Current CPR certification from AHA or Red Cross.
