Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Patient Observer to provide constant observation and maintain a safe environment for patients at risk to themselves or others. This role works under the direction of the Registered Nurse and supports the nursing staff with specific care tasks as needed.

The ideal candidate has a High School Diploma or equivalent, BLS certification (or within 30 days of hire), and strong interpersonal skills to communicate with patients and families with empathy.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
• AHA BLS Certification required, or obtained within 30 days of hire.
• Must possess interpersonal skills to interact with patients and their families with kindness and empathy.

Responsibilities

• Assures a safe care environment for assigned patients and notifies RN of any concerns.
• Receives nursing handoff at beginning of shift regarding reason for observation and provides/receives handoffs to/from Observer and RN.
• Observes patient for changes in behavior and conditions and notifies responsible RN.
• Completes required annual education and other trainings within established deadlines.
• Must maintain active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at all times.
