Job summary

OhioHealth in Columbus is seeking a Patient Registration/Financial Counseling specialist to assist patients and families with financial arrangements before admission, during hospitalization, and at discharge.

You will verify insurance information, answer questions, and handle concerns, while training new staff and leading lower level registration staff to ensure accurate patient admissions.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• 1–2 years of related experience.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Familiarity with medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Assist in supervising Patient Registrars and Scheduling/Bed Management Coordinators; train new employees and conduct training sessions.
• Distribute work to ensure patients are registered efficiently; assist in processing pay records and staff schedules.
• Obtain and verify registration information; pre-register patients by phone and from database; confirm insurance coverage and benefits.
• Interview incoming patients to gather identifying information and input data into the system.
• Perform Bed Scheduler duties: take reservations, coordinate cancellations and new bed assignments as needed.
• Supervise decentralized Registration sites and open registration centers each weekday; manage communications with departments.
