Job Description Summary
This position initiates the Revenue Cycle process by collecting accurate demographic and financial information to produce a clean claim necessary for timely reimbursement. The role also provides exceptional customer service during encounters with patients, families, visitors, and OhioHealth physicians and associates.
Responsibilities
- Accurately identify patients in the EMR system.
- Obtain and enter accurate patient demographic and financial information via phone, virtual, face‑to‑face, or bedside locations while maintaining confidentiality.
- Provide exceptional customer service during all encounters with patients, families, visitors, and OhioHealth physicians and associates.
- Perform registration functions in any Patient Access area.
- Use critical thinking to make decisions, resolve issues, and/or escalate concerns.
- Use computer programs to enter and retrieve information.
- Verify insurance eligibility using online systems, payer websites, or phone.
- Secure and track insurance authorizations and process BXC patients.
- Transcribe ancillary orders.
- Schedule outpatient appointments.
- Generate, print, and provide patient estimates using price estimator products.
- Collect patients’ out‑of‑pocket expenses and past balances to meet department goals.
- Attempt to collect residual balances from previous visits.
- Answer questions regarding insurance residuals and self‑pay accounts.
- Use knowledge of CPT codes to accurately select codes from clinical descriptions.
- Generate regulatory documents and obtain consent signatures.
- Determine patient out‑of‑network acceptance into the organization.
- Review insurance information and discuss available financial aid with patients.
- Explain billing procedures and hospital policies and provide documentation.
- Scan required documents for claim submission into patient records.
- Escort or transport patients safely between destinations.
- Assist clinical staff with administrative duties as needed.
- Comply with policies and procedures unique to each access area.
- Assist with training new associates.
- Oversee reception desks and lobby areas, ensuring cleanliness and order.
- Register or obtain consents on Nursing Units.
- Use multi‑line phone system to transfer callers to appropriate locations.
- Make reminder phone calls to patients.
- Process off‑site registrations, paper registrations, and pre‑registered paper accounts.
- Maintain patient logs for statistical purposes.
- Screen insurance information to determine need for referrals or financial counseling.
- Educate patients on MyChart, including activation.
- Potentially manage visitor credentialing and wayfinding assistance.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School or GED (Required).
- One to two years of experience in a medical office setting.
Specialized Knowledge & Skills
Excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills; basic computer skills; ability to work with electronic medical records and administrative systems.

Work Shift: Variable.
Scheduled Weekly Hours: As Needed.
