Job summary

Dignity Health - Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, CA is seeking a Patient Registration Representative to ensure a positive patient experience at registration. You will collect demographics, verify insurance, determine financial liability, and explain hospital policies and patient rights.

You will identify patient information, enter data into the ADT system, review accounts for accuracy, and obtain necessary signatures.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience in a hospital Patient Registration department, physician office setting, healthcare insurance company, revenue cycle vendor, and/or other revenue cycle related roles.
• Applicable education and/or training can balance lack of experience and experience in requesting and processing financial payments.

Responsibilities

• Register patients and collect accurate demographics, verify insurance, determine financial liability, and explain hospital policies and patient rights.
• Enter and review demographic information in the ADT system, ensure MRN accuracy, and obtain signatures on required forms.
• Review accounts for accuracy and documentation; meet CMS billing requirements and document in the system.
• Verify insurance benefits and obtain referrals, authorizations, and pre-certifications; assist with medical necessity checks when appropriate.
• Explain and arrange financial clearance, including payment plans and patient responsibilities; follow HIPAA and EMTALA related procedures.
• Provide patient education materials and ensure documents are scanned into the system.
• Adhere to downtime procedures and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Follow EMTALA-compliant registration steps in ED and L&D areas.
