Job summary

Coryell Health is seeking a Clinic Referral Clerk to coordinate and process patient referrals, ensuring timely communication between patients, providers, clinics, and outside facilities. The role helps ensure referrals are scheduled, documented, and followed through while delivering friendly, professional customer service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous healthcare, medical office, scheduling, referral, or customer service experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes preferred.
• Strong computer and data-entry skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information professionally.

Responsibilities

• Process and coordinate patient referrals from clinic providers.
• Obtain and verify patient demographic, insurance, and referral information.
• Schedule appointments with specialists and other healthcare providers.
• Communicate with patients regarding referral appointments, instructions, and required documentation.
• Contact specialty offices, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities to coordinate referrals.
• Obtain required authorizations and insurance approvals when applicable.
• Monitor referrals to ensure appointments are scheduled and completed in a timely manner.
• Maintain accurate referral records and documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Follow up on outstanding referrals and communicate delays or issues to the appropriate provider or department.
• Answer telephone calls and assist patients with referral-related questions.
• Protect patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA and organizational policies.
• Work closely with clinic staff, providers, insurance companies, and outside facilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
