Job summary

Yale NewHaven Health is seeking a dedicated dietary services aide to support patient meal service in a hospital setting. You will assist dietitians with monitoring patients, collect meal selections at bedside using CBORD, and assemble and deliver patient trays with two identifiers to ensure safety and accuracy.

You will maintain high standards of hygiene, assist with tray sanitation, and respond to patient needs with excellent service while following safety procedures and dietary restrictions.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills required (verbal, reading, writing) to follow instructions and interact with others.
• Excellent customer service skills expected during interactions with patients and staff.
• Proficient in basic mathematical calculations for daily tasks.
• Must demonstrate safe handling of knives and meat slicer.

Responsibilities

• Follows infection control policies and maintains personal hygiene and uniform cleanliness.
• Collects patient meal selections at bedside using CBORD on tablet; follows diet restrictions.
• Provide exemplary customer service and maintain eye contact; respond to needs and resolve concerns.
• Answer phones and interact professionally; follow guidelines for equipment use and care.
• Ensure quality of service and meet survey targets for the unit.
• Assemble trays in the kitchen, deliver with two patient identifiers and check accuracy.
• Collect soiled trays after meals and return carts to dish room for cleaning.
• Strip and prep trays for washing; maintain sanitation of meal service carts.
• Maintain confidential patient information and verify charges during end-of-day closes.
• Handle diet requests from nursing units promptly per procedures.
• Attend area meetings, training, and staff development sessions as appropriate.
• Operate department equipment safely and according to procedures.
• Accept schedule changes and assignments as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
