Job summary

Cantex is seeking a Cook/Assistant Chef to prepare and portion patient meals according to approved menus in a timely manner in a sanitized environment compliant with regulations. The role involves supervising food service staff as needed and maintaining strict food safety and portion control.

Responsibilities include preparing meals, labeling and storing items, tracking temperatures, and assisting in recipe standardization.

Qualifications

• Current state Food Manager Certificate is required.
• Experience in quality food preparation and production in either long-term care or healthcare setting is preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and speak the English language.

Responsibilities

• Prepares or directs preparation of food items on assigned/scheduled menus.
• Adheres to food production and usage schedules and avoids waste.
• Labels, dates, and stores food items/leftovers after use.
• Maintains sanitation of equipment and utensils, and all work/storage areas.
• Prepares special items, meals, and snacks per instructions.
• Logs temperatures of food, refrigerators, freezers, and dispensers as appropriate.
• May supervise Nutrition Services staff when assigned as PIE.
• Instructs new employees in regulations and policies with Nutrition Services Director.
• Ensures trays are attractive and served at correct flavor/temperature.
• Maintains orderly storage of all food items and supplies.
• Assists in standardization of recipes to meet menu needs.
• Determines portion control and checks supplies on vendor orders.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
