Job summary

Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor is seeking a full-time Patient Business Associate for the Pre-Service, Revenue Cycle Department to review insurance and financial risk for inpatient admissions and short stays.

You will verify eligibility, collect benefit information, educate patients on out-of-pocket costs, and document all actions to support first-pass reimbursement. Remote/hybrid work options available after training.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years' registration, billing & third party payer experience in a healthcare setting.
• Outstanding customer service with strong written and verbal communication.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with accuracy.
• Proficiency in computers and basic software applications.
• Team-focused, able to work within a participative management framework.

Responsibilities

• Acquire accurate insurance information to ensure first time quality.
• Verify eligibility, collect benefit information, and document requirements.
• Educate patients on out-of-pocket liability prior to service.
• Update patient demographics and insurance data as needed.
• Communicate insurance requirements to newborn delivery patients.
• Refer complex cases to Patient Financial Counselor or funding sources.
• Document all actions, contacts, outcomes and interventions clearly.
• Respond to insurance questions from Michigan Medicine customers promptly.
• Review inpatient accounts held due to insurance issues post-discharge.
• Participate in LEAN meetings and develop standard workflows.
