Job summary

NYU Langone Health in New York is seeking a Financial Counselor to assist patients in understanding and meeting financial obligations, evaluating financial status, and determining eligibility for hospital-based assistance.

The role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills; you will work with physicians, patients, and insurance providers to arrange payment options, charity care, and alternate arrangements, ensuring compliant, patient-centered care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Health Administration or Business Administration or related field.
• Good interpersonal and effective communication skills (written and oral) & problem solving.
• Ability to handle irate customers, work independently, and manage teams.

Responsibilities

• Interview discharged patients unable to pay their bills and review applications for completeness and eligibility.
• Document assessments in hospital information systems and prepare related reports.
• Coordinate with Patient Access and Patient Financial Services and physicians to determine eligibility for financial programs.
• Explain insurance coverage and financial requirements to patients and families; assist in applying for public or other assistance programs.
• Arrange payment options, charity care, or other financial arrangements; set up deposits as needed.
