Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT, part of Trinity Health, is seeking a Financial Advocate to support patients with treatment costs, benefits, and payment options. The role serves as a liaison between Revenue Site Operations and Patient Financial Services to improve collections and reduce write-offs.

The ideal candidate has 2–3 years in patient access/accounting, basic billing knowledge, and is willing to obtain HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA within 12 months. Epic experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2–3 years experience in Patient Access or Patient Accounting for hospital registration and/or hospital reimbursement services.
• HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA certification required within one year of hire.
• Understanding of basic billing and coding.

Employment Information

Employment Type: Full time Shift: Day Shift Description: Position Purpose Financial advocate for the patient and a liaison between Revenue Site Operations (RSO) and Patient Financial Services (PFS). Determines liability on patient accounts and works with patients or their representatives to provide financial assistance or secure payment.

What you will do

• Counsel patient on cost of treatment, insurance benefits, resources for payment and financial assistance
• Secure and document payment arrangements
• Assist patients in financing, payment plans, financial assistance and all financial options through the organization
• Audit bills for accuracy & edits for front-end inaccuracies to increase collections and decrease write-offs
• Work closely with RSO and division leadership to improve collections

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum two (2) to three (3) years experience working in Patient Access or Patient Accounting for hospital registration and / or hospital reimbursement services
• Obtain National certification in HFMA CRCR and/or NAHAM CHAA required within one (1) year of hire.
• Understanding of basic billing and coding.

Additional Qualifications (nice to have)

• Epic experience
• Knowledge of federal or state government agencies including but not limited to Medicare, Medicaid, VA or Charity Care programs, or patient management and healthcare accounts receivable within the healthcare revenue cycle

Position Highlights

• Full time 32hrs, every other Saturday and 3-4 days during the week.
• Weekend differential applies.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range: $18.50-25.00 per hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
