Job summary

UPMC is hiring full-time Patient Financial Advocates to support the Patient Advocacy department. Positions are available at UPMC Magee Women's, Children’s, and Western Psychiatric hospitals.

The employee would need to work either Thursday-Monday or Friday-Tuesday. Available shift times are flexible and the employee could select their shift upfront as long as they are able to work within normal daylight/evening hours as the employee is required to go into patient rooms.

Qualifications

• Experience in financial counseling or billing in a health-care setting.
• Ability to counsel uninsured/underinsured patients.
• Familiarity with Pennsylvania Medical Assistance and Health Insurance Marketplace.
• Ability to screen and assist with financial assistance programs.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory and financial requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide timely financial counseling to patients and families.
• Assist with applications for PA Medical Assistance, Health Insurance Marketplace, and UPMC Financial Assistance.
• Explain insurance benefits and payment options to patients.
• Monitor patient accounts and follow up on inquiries and problems.
• Maintain department productivity and ensure quality standards.
• Support walk-in inquiries regarding billing issues in collaboration with the Patient Financial Services Department.
