Sanford Health is seeking a Financial Counseling Representative to assist patients in understanding their financial responsibilities and to offer resources and options to meet those responsibilities.

The role involves answering billing questions, reviewing insurance coverage and EOBs, explaining charges, and helping set up payment plans. Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with healthcare/insurance experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 2 years' experience in healthcare service or health insurance preferred.
• Experience with patient financial counseling is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Answers billing questions.
• Reviews patient's insurance coverage and Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).
• Provides clarification regarding charges incurred.
• Reviews insurance denials and explains denial to the patient.
• Reviews payment plan guidelines and assists in setting up payment arrangements.
• Determines if patient is eligible for payment assistance programs and assists in the application process.
• Educates patients on insurance concepts, copayments, coverage, effective dates, referrals, and claim resubmission.
• May assist patient in completing medical assistance paperwork or referrals to Medicaid or other programs.
• Advises uninsured patients on outstanding medical costs and establishes a payment plan.
• Interacts with patients in-person and diffuses strong emotions.
• Calculates and provides cost estimates for medical procedures and anticipated patient share.
• Advises on and collects prepayments for services not covered by insurance.
• May perform guest service duties.
• Other duties as assigned.
